Why autumn is the best time to start laser hair removal

Six sessions, spaced weeks apart, and skin that needs to stay untanned. Here's why starting now means smooth skin by summer.

Most people think about laser hair removal in May, when the sandals come out. By then it's too late to finish a course before summer. Laser works best on untanned skin, and a course of six sessions takes months, not weeks.

Laser works with your hair's growth cycle

Hair grows in phases, and laser only affects follicles in their active growth phase. At any moment, only some of your hairs are in that phase. That's why we treat in a course of six, spaced four to eight weeks apart depending on the area: each session catches a new set of follicles.

Do the maths and a full course takes roughly six to eight months. Start in autumn and your final session lands in spring.

Your skin is at its palest

Laser needs untanned skin. A tan, real or fake, makes treatment less effective and raises the risk of irritation. Autumn and winter are when most of us are furthest from our last holiday, which makes them the ideal treatment months.

Less sun to avoid between sessions

During a course you need to protect treated skin from the sun and wear SPF 30 or higher. That's much easier in November than in July.

How to start

  • Book a free consultation and patch test. It takes thirty minutes.
  • We choose diode or Nd:YAG for your skin tone and hair type.
  • Your first session can follow once the patch test has settled, usually within a few days.

During laser season, every course of six is 50% off. Underarms is £300 for the whole course, which is £50 a session.
